- New exploratory data from a randomised, open-label, 12-week cross-over study in 12 adults with type 1 diabetes, comparing Klario® with standard glucose gel, were presented at EASD 2026 in Milan.
- 75% of participants reported reduced glucose spikes after a hypo, which they put down to not over-treating, and an exploratory analysis linked less time spent low with less worry.
- The findings highlight the importance of measuring how people feel and function after a hypo, alongside glucose recovery.
London, UK – Flow Health Science announced today that new data from the Klario® (FLO23011) trial were presented at the European Association for the Study of Diabetes (EASD) Annual Meeting 2026 in Milan.
The study was led by Prof. David Russell-Jones, Scientific Adviser to Flow Health Science and co-inventor of Klario. The exploratory analyses evaluated outcomes and CGM data from a previously reported 12-week randomised, open-label, crossover study in 12 adults with type 1 diabetes1.
Participants rated 14 domains and completed structured interviews, comparing their recovery experience with Klario® versus standard-of-care (SoC) glucose gel. 92% rated Klario “very” or “extremely” effective, compared with 50% for the standard glucose gel, while 92% said they “never” or “rarely” experienced post-hypo “hangover” symptoms, compared with 33% with the comparator.
In addition, 75% of participants reported smaller glucose spikes after treating a hypo. Less time spent in level 1 hypoglycaemia (3.0–3.8 mmol/L) was associated with lower worry and better perceived management (ρ=0.90; p=0.037).
“The data suggest that how people feel after treating a hypo is worth measuring in its own right, alongside glucose.” — Professor David Russell-Jones, Diabetologist and Principal Investigator on the study
The findings add to Flow Health Science’s ongoing research into the experience of recovery following hypoglycaemia.
“There can be a gap between glucose returning to range and a person feeling fully recovered. We want to understand that gap better. Outcomes matter because they tell us something a glucose reading alone cannot.” — Georgia Myers, CEO, Flow Health Science
These findings should be interpreted in the context of the study design. The analyses come from an open-label study of 12 adults with type 1 diabetes. These analyses are exploratory and hypothesis-generating.
