London, 24 September 2026 – Klario®, the advanced fuel for hypos developed by London-based advanced nutrition company Flow Health Science, won Innovation of the Year in the Small Business category at the 2026 Pharma Industry Awards UK, presented on 23 September.

Flow Health Science also took Best Emerging Pharma/Supplier Company/Start Up, for “Establishing Advanced Nutrition as a New Category in Healthcare”.

“This entrant showcased a unique healthcare innovation supported by strong evidence, a clear development pathway, and a well-defined market vision. Klario demonstrates the potential to improve quality of life for people living with diabetes, supported by robust research, patient insights, and meaningful clinical outcomes.” — Judging panel, Pharma Industry Awards UK 2026
“Klario was built for the moment someone with diabetes feels a hypo coming on. Being recognised twice by a pharmaceutical industry panel tells us that holding nutrition to pharma’s standards – define the problem, be clear about the mechanism, test it properly – is the right approach. We’ll keep building the evidence, and bring the same method to what comes next.” — Tara Lumley, Chief Strategy and Business Officer (CSBO), Flow Health Science

Klario was evaluated in a 12-week randomised study in adults with type 1 diabetes, comparing it with standard glucose-only products across more than 1,000 hypoglycaemic episodes. The study was published in Diabetes, Obesity and Metabolism.

The awards add to a series of recognitions for Flow Health Science in 2026. Earlier this year, the company was a finalist in the ADA Innovation Challenge, placing in the top five globally. Klario also won Best Health Innovation at the World Food Innovation Awards and the Product Innovation Award at the Food & Drink Federation Awards, while Flow Health Science was named Innovative StartUp of the Year for London at the UK StartUp Awards.

Klario®: A Novel Approach to Hypoglycaemia Management

Hypoglycemia represents a critical therapeutic challenge in diabetes management: people with T1D may experience 100–200 treatment-related episodes annually. Current recommended therapeutic interventions using glucose-only treatments frequently result in suboptimal outcomes, including rapid glucose fluctuations, persistent neuroglycopenic symptoms, and fear-driven non-adherence to medication. Klario, a novel multi-substrate energy formulation combining glucose with BHB, was designed to achieve more complete recovery from hypoglycemia. In line with medical guidelines, Klario delivers 15 grams of fast-acting carbs to raise blood glucose quickly, while also raising BHB levels acutely. This combination formula improves glycemic control in the immediate post-treatment period and provides rapid, sustained neuroglycopenic recovery.
